About Mentoskop

Mentoskop is a way to reveal the model hidden inside a spreadsheet.

A spreadsheet is presented as a grid of cells, but the model built inside it is something else. It consists of inputs, ranges, calculations, formulas, and dependencies that together form a structured system.

As a spreadsheet grows, that structure becomes increasingly difficult to see. Its logic is distributed across cells and sheets, and understanding the model often means reconstructing that structure in your head.

Mentoskop analyzes a Google Sheets spreadsheet and reconstructs its structure explicitly. The result is a Mentogram: a representation of the model in terms of its ranges, calculations, and dependencies rather than just its position in a grid.

A Mentogram can be explored visually, but visualization is only one way to use this representation. By making the structure of a spreadsheet explicit, Mentoskop makes the underlying model available independently of the grid in which it was originally built.

The spreadsheet remains the source of truth. A Mentogram is another representation of the model contained in it.

Mentoskop is experimental software and is currently under active development.
